Seaton proposed housing arial shot

As part of the State Government’s commitment to building a better housing future for all South Australians, a part of Seaton where the SA Housing Authority (the Authority) has a lot of properties, is being revitalised. This urban renewal project is being planned and delivered by Renewal SA with the support of the Authority and will be the most significant investment in new housing in the region since it was first developed in the post-war period.

We are investing in public housing so that families in need will continue to have the right homes and secure housing into the future. We are also building different types of dwellings to improve the quality and quantity of public housing, so that tenants have more choice. Within the designated revitalisation project area in Seaton, there are a high number of Authority owned public houses that are dated, expensive to maintain, and no longer meet today’s lifestyle and needs of the community. As a result, we will need to relocate up to some tenants to other homes, and the Authority is working closely with these tenants to ensure a smooth relocation process. View map below

Redevelopment and relocation of our tenants will take several years and will be undertaken in a phased approach.

The facts

  • 386 new Public Housing homes
  • Undergrounding of overhead power lines
  • Landscape woks to streetscapes and 12.5% public open space, tree canopy and public art ($12m)
  • Civil construction - internal roads, services, and pedestrian/cycling connections, ($89m)

What will we build?

  • 229 two-bedroom homes, mix of single storey and townhouses
  • 57 four-bedroom homes, mix of single storey and townhouses
  • 100 Two-bedroom apartments
